How do you open a combination lock if you have forgotten the codes?

Gently pull up on the shackle and try to hold it one place. Turn the dial clockwise and listen attentively for the click sound of the lock. Start with a reasonable amount of pressure, then gently let it up as you spin the thing around. Do that until you meet a resistance only in one spot. If the dial catches every few numbers, it means you are pulling too hard.

When it comes to household insurance, what are the lock requirements?

This will vary from one insurance provider to the other. Most of them need some external doors to have locke to British Standards BS3621. These have to be either a five lever mortice sash lock or deadbolt, a multi-point locking mechanism oir a rim automatic deadlatch. What we recommend is that you should check with your insurance company and take a look at your insurance policy.

Do you need to change my locks or just get the existing ones rekeyed?

You need some clarification. Changing locks is taking the whole lock, knob/lever, latch and strike and replacing it. Rekeying a lock is the process of taking the existing lock cylinder (leaving the rest) and changing it. An expert locksmith does this so that your existing key will no longer work and a new one will. Note, most of the time you will just want your locks rekeyed.

What if I can’t verify that the car/house/office that needs to be worked on is mine or I should be in there until I can?

If things really come to this, we will be needing a letter of authorization from the owner of the car/house/office which you claim to be yours. If you cannot provide this kind of identification or authorization, we may not be able to assist you. I am sure the other car, home and office owners will appreciate your cooperation.

Is a mobile locksmith capable of making an ignition key for my car?

A well trained, experienced and quality-oriented locksmith should be able to help you formulate a replacement key for you. They would do it even if you do not have an original copy on you. When you call in one of us, you will need to send over some information to us before we will agree to replace your key.

How long does it take to fix a broken lock?

This will vary depending on the lock type and the condition of the lock. A Yale lock for example would normally take 20 to 30 minutes to repair or replace. But bear in mind that a mortise lock might need to take a bit longer nearer 40 to 50 minutes. All of this duration really depends on the type of lock, the fault and the condition of the door / lock. We will always give you a quote before attending to any work of yours.
